MAY 14, 2026 â THURSDAY EDITION
Seventy degrees and sunny to kick things off, warming into the high 80s by Saturday â this is the weekend the Bull City has been waiting for. Three festivals, a Third Friday art crawl, a crawfish boil, and a DPAC date night? Yeah, you're going to need a plan. Let's get into it.
WHAT'S UP DURHAM đ
Dosirak Outpost bringing Korean convenience store to downtown â If you've been lucky enough to snag a spot at Dosirak Durham's monthly pop-ups at Remy's Lounge, you know the hype is real. Owner Kristine Suh is leveling up: she's opening Dosirak Outpost, a Korean convenience store at 307 W. Main St. in Downtown Durham Inc.'s incubator space. Think packaged snacks, pantry staples, and the kind of stuff you'd find in a Seoul corner shop. The space is currently occupied by Ashleigh Bakes Daily, who's heading to a new location. (WUNC)
Red Phone Booth set for downtown Durham debut â The speakeasy-meets-pizza concept is opening its first North Carolina location at 125 Orange Street this month. You'll need to find the phone number to get in (that's the whole speakeasy thing), but once inside expect craft cocktails and wood-fired pies in a vintage-vibes setting. (Discover Durham)
Little Barb's Bakery winding down at Durham Food Hall â May 31 is the last day for Little Barb's at the Food Hall, but they're hinting heavily that something new is coming. Follow along on their Instagram for what's next. (WRAL Foodie News)
Hamilton arrives at DPAC May 20 â Tickets are going fast for the blockbuster run that starts next Wednesday and goes through June 14. If you've been putting it off, this is your nudge. Tickets start at $52. (DPAC)
EVENT SPOTLIGHT: BimbĂ© Cultural Arts Festival đ
Durham's longest-running celebration of African and African American history, culture, and community is back â and this year it's headlined by hip-hop legend Doug E. Fresh. If that name doesn't immediately make you start beatboxing, we can't help you.
Bimbé (pronounced bim-BAY) takes over Rock Quarry Park on Saturday afternoon with live music, a family fun zone, arts and crafts vendors, local talent showcases, ethnic food, and community resource booths. It's the kind of event where you bring a lawn chair, settle in with a plate of something delicious, and let the music carry you through the afternoon. Kids run free, the vibes are immaculate, and you'll bump into half the people you know.
Pro tips: Seating is NOT provided â bring your own lawn chair or blanket (this is non-negotiable unless you enjoy standing for five hours). Parking fills up, so carpool or rideshare if you can. The food vendors are the real deal â come hungry and bring cash just in case. The event is family-friendly through and through, so bring the whole crew.
When: Saturday, May 16 · 1:00 PM
Where: Rock Quarry Park, 701 Stadium Dr.
Cost: FREE

Pair a pile of mudbugs with one of their always-excellent beers and pretend you're on the bayou. No reservations needed, just show up hungry. (Discover Durham)
AfterHours: Science of Beer at the Museum (Thursday) â Leave the kids at home for this one. The Museum of Life and Science is hosting its beloved adults-only evening with local brewery samples, science demos, lawn games, sunset train rides, and access to exhibits including the Butterfly House. Food trucks on-site. $45 gets you in with a commemorative cup. Thursday at 6:30 PM. (Museum of Life and Science)
Alley Twenty Six's $1.50 Oyster Hour â Still running through June: swing by between 4-5 PM Tuesday through Friday for $1.50 raw oysters sourced from NC and the East Coast. First come, first served at the bar. One of downtown Durham's best deals. (Alley Twenty Six)
Nana's at Rockwood: Mayacamas Wine Dinner (Tonight!) â If you're reading this in time, tonight's the night. Nana's is hosting a wine dinner featuring Mayacamas Vineyards at 6:30 PM. A Napa icon paired with Rockwood's cooking. (Discover Durham)

BULLS CORNER đ

The next homestand kicks off May 19 against Nashville, featuring Wool E. Bull's birthday and Military Appreciation Day. If you can't make it to the park this week, mark May 19 on the calendar â that homestand runs through the 24th and overlaps with Hamilton opening at DPAC. A very good week to be in downtown Durham.
Up next: vs. Nashville Sounds, May 19-24 at DBAP
WEEKEND WEATHER âïž
Durham's getting a proper spring-to-summer transition this weekend. Thursday and Friday are beautiful â highs around 70-74°F with sunshine and comfortable temps perfect for Third Friday gallery-hopping or catching Hot 8 Brass Band at Motorco. By Saturday, things heat up to 87°F with sunshine â ideal for outdoor festivals but bring water and sunscreen to BimbĂ© and the Greek Festival. Sunday stays warm at 86°F with some clouds rolling in. Rain chances are basically zero all weekend.
Our pick: Saturday is an all-day outdoor marathon â hit the farmers market in the morning, BimbĂ© at 1 PM, Common Roots at 3 PM, and the Greek Festival whenever you can squeeze it in. Pace yourself.
WHAT WE'RE READING đ
"How a Korean food pop-up became Durham's hottest monthly ticket" â WUNC's feature on Kristine Suh and Andrew Mehring's Dosirak Durham is the kind of Durham story that makes you proud to live here. From monthly pop-ups at Remy's Lounge to a forthcoming Korean convenience store in DDI's incubator space on West Main, it's a beautiful arc about food, community, and the ecosystem that helps small businesses grow in the Bull City. Read it at WUNC.
DURHAM LOVE NOTE đ
Shoutout to the volunteers, organizers, and community builders behind this weekend's festivals. BimbĂ© has been running for decades. The Greek Festival has sold over 50,000 copies of its community cookbook. Common Roots is only in its second year and already feels like a tradition. None of this happens without people who care deeply about this city and every community in it. Durham doesn't just have events â it has people who pour their whole hearts into making them happen. That's the Bull City difference.
Much love, Durham. See you out there this weekend. đ
